Description

The plan activity that is proposed for funding through this proposal implementsobjective b prevention that will focus on the following strategies and actions fromappendix c: short- and long-term strategies and actions and implementation table, of thelake tahoe aquatic invasive species management plan(2014). Strategy B1: motorized inspection decontamination- action B1A: summer season inspection and decontamination implementation, action B1B: winter season inspection and decontamination implementation o trpa staff oversees contractors that perform mandatory watercraft inspections and decontaminations year-round. Currently, trpa contracts with the tahoe resource conservation district to perform these activities. Trpa staff manages the contract and ensures proper training of staff occur in accordance with the uniform minimum protocols and standards for watercraft inspection and decontamination programs for dreissenid mussels in the western united states (umps III). O trpa staff train, certify and contract with local launch facilities to ensure program protocols are followed. While launch facility staff do not perform full watercraft inspections, they do ensure that only previous inspected boats may launch. This is done by verifying a lake tahoe watercraft inspection seal is properly secured between the boat and the trailer. O in order to improve program effectiveness, efficiencies and customer service, the lake tahoe AIS program is seeking to develop permanent inspection station facilities, rather than seasonal sites. Trpa staff will coordinate with land agencies and other partners in the lake tahoe region to identify locations and develop design plans for a permanent facility. Strategy B2: non-motorized inspection and decontamination- action B2A: non-motorized watercraft inspection o trpa staff will coordinate with contractors and partners on strategies to address non-motorized watercraft risk of transport of existing AIS within the tahoe region. Lake tahoe currently has populations of eurasian watermilfoil and curlyleaf pondweed that have a risk of spreading to other waters within the region (fallen leaf lake and echo lakes) that a free of these species. Strategies will be developed and implemented to reduce that risk of spread.
