About this award

The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service awarded Ducks Unlimited, Inc. a $3,007,500 project grant under the North American Wetlands Conservation Fund program (CFDA 15.623) to support wetlands conservation efforts in Virginia from April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2027. Through its Southern Regional Office division, Ducks Unlimited will protect, restore, and enhance priority wetlands along blackwater rivers and coastal bays in northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Project activities will aim to reduce non-point source pollution, restore clean water, recover habitat, and sustain environmental and habitat resources for migratory waterfowl, wildlife, and the public. As the prime recipient, Ducks Unlimited will deliver wetlands conservation services across public and private lands in the target region in alignment with the objectives of the North American Wetlands Conservation Fund program.

Description

Mid-atlantic blackwaters and bays i is the first iteration in a possible series of future proposals planned by ducks unlimited in conjunction with state and federal agencies, private corporations, and conservation-minded private landowners to protect, restore, and enhance priority wetlands on both private and public lands throughout northeastern north carolina and southeastern virginia. The emphasis of this proposal on blackwater rivers and coastal bays of the mid-atlantic is inspired by the significance of the waterways and watersheds within the region and the importance of preventing the over-development of the area, while reducing non-point source pollution, restoring clean water, recovering habitat, and sustaining environmental and habitat resources for migratory waterfowl, other wildlife, and the public in the region.
