About this award

Written by GovTribe AI ·

The Cambria Fire Department received a $924,282 Project Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program (CFDA 97.083), awarded March 19, 2026, with a completion date of March 18, 2029. This three-year award funds the hiring of frontline firefighters and the implementation of recruitment and retention strategies for both career and volunteer firefighter positions within the department.

The SAFER program supports communities in meeting industry minimum standards for 24-hour staffing levels and enabling fire departments to fulfill their traditional emergency response missions. As a rural California fire service, the Cambria Fire Department's grant aligns with the program's core focus on expanding firefighter staffing capacity in underserved areas. The award represents the department's second SAFER grant in recent years, following an earlier grant completed in June 2025, demonstrating continued federal investment in the department's operational capacity and workforce development initiatives.
