Description

The toledo healthy homes training center (thhtc) will serve as a regional hub to provide the training needs of WAP providers in northern ohio, as well as for the local contractors used by those programs. The thhtc will offer trainees an entry way to the broader clean energy job market and expand the WAP workforce capacity across northern ohio (and possibly statewide). The thhtc will facilitate workforce development training opportunities across impacted communities utilizing green and healthy homes initiative (ghhi)'s proven integrated service model for healthy and energy efficient housing interventions: weatherization, lead remediation, air quality, etc. The following objectives will be met by this program: • identification of a facility for training per ohio minimum weatherization standards and federal and state lead hazard mitigation guidelines, as well as additional healthy homes subject matter as partners deem appropriate and additional funding is braided. • renovation of the facilities as necessary to meet the requirements for a coad hub, as well as a certified BPI training and testing facility. • securing workforce development resources to provide supportive resources like financial education, stipends, transportation vouchers, and licensing fees. • recruitment, training and mentoring a diverse workforce, including licensed minority contractors, will increase their capacity to compete for weatherization and lead mitigation jobs, both as direct employees or as contractors working for WAP providers. By delivering this support in a convenient, culturally competent neighborhood setting, nhst aims to put job-seekers on a "fast-track" to boosting their basic skills and moving into higher-level training and job placement for middle-skills career pathways.
