The PLT program develops certified power linemen for the public utilities in the Pacific insular areas of Guam, Palau, Yap, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). This funding will enable the delivery of 22 basic lineman training classes, up from 19 the previous year, to train an estimated 46 new certified linemen who will join the line crews of 4 insular areas. An additional 29 linemen are expected to complete certification training in the following 6 months, significantly increasing the number of qualified power linemen to rehabilitate aging power distribution infrastructure impacted by storms and deterioration. This training program is critical to address the severe shortage of power linemen in these insular Pacific regions.
