THE GILCREASE MUSEUM WILL PROVIDE VIRTUAL ACCESS TO FIRST-HAND ACCOUNTS OF THE 1921 TULSA RACE MASSACRE BY CATALOGING AND DIGITIZING 600 PHOTOS AND 100 ORAL HISTORIES FROM SURVIVORS. RECOGNIZING A SUBSTANTIVE INCREASE IN SEARCH SESSIONS AND USERS OF ITS ONLINE COLLECTIONS SINCE THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE MUSEUM HOPES TO EXPAND ITS REACH TO THE HIGH-NEED COMMUNITY OF AFRICAN AMERICANS IN TULSA BY SHARING THESE SELECT MATERIALS FROM ITS COLLECTIONS. COMMUNITY PARTNERS WILL PARTICIPATE IN TAGGING AND CATALOGING MATERIALS THAT CAN BE DISCOVERED THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH ENGINES. THE MUSEUM WILL ALSO USE THE COLLECTION TO CREATE A CURRICULUM TO ASSIST K-12 EDUCATORS IN TEACHING TRAUMA-BASED HISTORY.
