The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development awarded $7.282 million to the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles on August 1, 2026, under the Continuum of Care Program (CFDA 14.267), a Special Notice of Funding Opportunity addressing unsheltered and rural homelessness.

The funding supports eligible activities including permanent supportive housing, rapid rehousing, transitional housing, supportive services, coordinated entry systems, street outreach, and homeless management information systems. For projects awarded under the rural set-aside, eligible costs additionally include up to six months of rent or utility arrears following nonpayment, short-term emergency lodging in motels or shelters, repairs up to $10,000 per structure necessary to make housing habitable, emergency food and clothing assistance, use of federal inventory property programs for housing, and capacity-building activities.

The award runs through July 31, 2027, with place of performance in Los Angeles, California. The Continuum of Care Program is designed to promote community-wide commitment to ending homelessness, provide funding for nonprofit providers, states, and local governments to quickly house homeless individuals and families while minimizing trauma and dislocation, promote access to mainstream programs, and optimize self-sufficiency among individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
