The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), through its Rural Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing Grants program (CFDA 14.265), awarded a $3,500,000 Project Grant to the Housing Assistance Council (HAC). This 4-year grant, awarded on April 15, 2025, aims to enhance the capacity and ability of rural housing development organizations, Community Development Corporations (CDCs), Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs), local governments, and Indian tribes to carry out affordable housing and community development activities in rural areas for the benefit of low- and moderate-income families and persons. The grant funds will be used by HAC, a national non-profit organization, to provide training, education, support, and advice to build the technical and administrative capabilities of eligible beneficiaries. This may include assisting them in participating in consolidated planning, fair housing planning, and continuum of care homeless assistance efforts, navigating increased federal housing and community development resources, and cooperatively planning for the use of available resources. Additionally, HAC may provide pass-through grants, loans, predevelopment assistance, or other financial assistance to CDCs and rural housing development organizations to increase their capacity to carry out community development and affordable housing activities.
