This federal Project Grant award, provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program (CFDA 66.049), will fund the replacement of approximately 60 Class 6 and Class 7 non-zero-emission vehicles operated by the Port of Oakland with new zero-emission battery electric delivery trucks. The $10,499,274 agreement will also support the installation of charging infrastructure at three logistics centers in Oakland, San Francisco, and Richmond, California, as well as workforce development and training to maintain and operate the new zero-emission vehicles. Key subrecipients include United Parcel Service (UPS), the Black Cultural Zone Community Development Corporation, and Lifers Leaving a Legacy, who will assist with equipment deployment, community engagement, and project implementation. The anticipated outcomes include significant annual reductions in greenhouse gas, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and other air pollutants, benefiting the surrounding communities.
