This $12,650,680 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616) will fund several initiatives by Casa Familiar, Inc. in San Diego, CA. The activities include: (1) developing and launching a low-cost e-shared mobility service with e-bikes, EV car share, and electric shuttles; (2) providing indoor air monitors and purifiers to 1,000 low-income households; and (3) implementing energy efficiency and healthy home upgrades, including electrification and weatherization, for 15 low-income residences. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and create economic opportunities in the disadvantaged San Ysidro community. Additional sub-awards will support technical assistance, capacity building, and the transition of the e-shared mobility service to a cooperatively owned model. Key expected outcomes include decreased air pollution, increased EV usage, new job opportunities in emission reduction careers, and reduced indoor environmental health hazards for area residents.
