The Board of Education of the City of St. Louis has been awarded a $13,854,793 Project Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program (CFDA 66.049) established by the Inflation Reduction Act. The funding will support the replacement of 30 in-use, non-zero-emission Class 6 and 7 heavy-duty vehicles (including school buses) with new zero-emission vehicles in the St. Louis area. The grant will also cover the purchase and installation of 30 DC fast charger ports, as well as workforce development and training programs for vehicle maintenance, charging, and operations. The anticipated outcomes include reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and greenhouse gases, improved air quality, reduced student absenteeism, and increased public awareness and support for zero-emission vehicles in the community. The Board of Education has partnered with a sub-recipient to carry out vehicle and infrastructure procurement, installation, maintenance, training, and operational services to support the project goals.
