This $1,642,106 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Geographic Programs - Chesapeake Bay Program (CFDA 66.466) will provide the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) partnership with updated land use/land cover data, enhanced river corridor data, and associated landscape metrics and communication products. The key activities include: 1) developing a high-resolution land cover dataset and methods for identifying land cover changes over time; 2) creating a database to track land characterization trends; 3) producing geospatial products and documents focused on land use/cover data and best management practices mapping; and 4) updating existing hydrography data to improve accuracy. Chesapeake Conservancy, Inc., a non-profit organization, will sub-award a portion of the funds to the University of Maryland Baltimore County to support stream channel mapping efforts. This project aims to equip CBP decision-makers and partners with the data and tools needed to support conservation, restoration, and climate change adaptation in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
