About this award

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families awarded $110,000 to Hawaii Children's Action Network (doing business as Good Beginnings Alliance) on August 31, 2026, under the Social Services Research and Demonstration program (CFDA 93.647).

The award funds a diaper distribution program centered on establishing a mobile distribution vehicle to deliver diapers, wipes, and other essential items directly to low-income families across Hawaii. The vehicle will support donation collection, participate in local events, and coordinate direct delivery with partner meetings and site visits to reduce travel time and logistical burden. Hawaii Children's Action Network will connect served families with partner agencies and strengthen relationships among diaper bank partners, operating a more sustainable and efficient distribution system.

Performance runs through August 30, 2027, with all work conducted in Hawaii. The Social Services Research and Demonstration program funds research and demonstration projects to evaluate community action agencies, social services agencies, and non-profit organizations' ability to provide diaper distribution programs on a consistent basis while delivering wraparound support services for families with low incomes.

Description

Diaper distribution program, including a vehicle - this project will establish a mobile distribution vehicle to deliver diapers, wipes, and other essential items directly to communities with the greatest need. The vehicle will also support donation collection and participation in local events, expanding access to both material assistance and supportive services. By serving low-income families across hawai'i and connecting them with hawai'i diaper bank's (HDB) partner agencies, the initiative will strengthen HDB's outreach and help more families access critical children's necessities. Direct delivery coordinated with partner meetings and site visits will reduce travel time, ease logistical burdens, and allow HDB to serve multiple partners more efficiently in a single trip. This model will also strengthen partner relationships and reduce vehicle miles traveled, supporting a more sustainable and effective distribution system.
