About this award
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration awarded the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security (Highway Patrol Division) $635,000 on December 1, 2025, under the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance High Priority Activities Grants program (CFDA 20.237).
The award funds two projects. Project 1 supports retention of an Innovative Technology Deployment (ITD) program manager and system architect to assist Tennessee's ITD team with implementation and expansion of statewide ITD projects and ensure federal compliance. The ITD team will participate in program management and Accreditation Committee calls, complete quarterly reports, attend the ITD conference, train new staff, update the Program Plan/Top Level Design (PP/TLD), and respond to data quality issues over three years. Project 2 deploys and maintains a Tire Automated Detection System (TADS) to improve enforcement of tire-related regulations and augment safety screening with real-time information on the performance of safety-critical systems for commercial vehicles. Using violation and inspection data, Tennessee anticipates that the percent of annual inspections with one or more tire violations at the Haywood County eastbound and westbound inspection sites will reach at least 30 percent.
Performance occurs in Tennessee from December 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030.
