Local roads program

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) received a $180,000 Project Grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under the Highway Training and Education program (CFDA 20.215), awarded on September 23, 2025, with a completion date of January 28, 2027. The grant funds the Local Roads Program, which operates from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. Under this award, VTrans will provide technical assistance, training, and professional development services to local transportation agencies and road departments throughout Vermont, consistent with the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) component of CFDA 20.215.

The Local Roads Program supports workforce capacity building and knowledge transfer to enhance the technical competencies of local transportation professionals responsible for managing Vermont's local road infrastructure. VTrans will leverage the funding to develop and deliver training curricula, offer technical assistance to municipal road departments, facilitate professional development opportunities, and support technology transfer initiatives that strengthen the management and maintenance capabilities of local transportation agencies across the state.
