About this award
The Department of Transportation Maritime Administration awarded Tampa Port Authority Inc. $15.96 million on December 1, 2025, under the National Infrastructure Investments program (CFDA 20.933) to construct Berth 301 at the Port Redwing facility in Tampa, Florida.
The project will build an approximately 1,025-foot dock connecting Berths 300 and 302, creating a 3,000-linear-foot berthing area capable of simultaneously docking three of the largest dry bulk multipurpose cargo vessels that can navigate the expanded Big Bend Channel. Work includes a 500-linear-foot by 80-linear-foot bulkhead extension west from Berth 302 using a pipe Z system with 45-foot design depth, high-energy-absorption fendering infrastructure on the new bulkhead, a high-wind upland mooring point, and installation of two navigational lights, dock lighting meeting Dark Sky Initiative and OSHA standards, and electrical service.
The award funds two components: construction administration, engineering support, oversight, inspections, and materials testing; and construction of all berth elements. Performance measures tracked include quarterly reporting of total vessel calls per year disaggregated by vessel type, freight capacity, and vessel length, and annual cargo volume measured in tons or TEUs.
Period of performance runs through December 31, 2027. No sub-recipients are documented.
Description
This will create an approximately 3000 linear foot berth capable of simultaneously docking three of the largest dry bulk multi purpose cargo vessels that can navigate the newly expanded big bend channel. Activities to be performed the project consists of two components with the following elements component 1 construction administration engineering support oversight during construction inspections materials testing. Component 2 construction element 1 bulkhead construction of an approximately 500 LF by 80 LF bulkhead extension west from berth 302 deploying a pipe Z system with 45 foot design depth alongside this creates an approximately 1500 LF wharf and ultimately a 3000-LF berthing area. Element 2 breasting infrastructure construction of a high energy absorption fendering system on the new bulkhead while allowing access to the existing apron. Element 3 mooring construction of a high wind upland mooring point. Element 4 lighting and electrical installation of two navigational lights dock lighting meeting dark sky initiative and occupational safety and health administration OSHA standards and electrical service.deliverables expected outcomes performance measure table from schedule G page 11 of the grant agreement measure vessel calls.
