- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation provides $413,981 to Vanderbilt University to operate a Research Experiences for Undergraduates site through February 2025. The site offers undergraduate physics and astronomy students opportunities to work on forefront research projects with faculty in areas including astronomy, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, particle physics, and data science. Students gain access to major research facilities and can visit laboratories like...
- This National Science Foundation project grant of $464,597 will fund research to characterize active learning environments in physics education and relate classroom features to student outcomes. The award was made under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education program (CFDA 47.076) to support the creation and implementation of promising STEM education practices. Specifically, the funding will support a collaborative research project between Drexel University and Wright...
PURPOSE: TO SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES THROUGH A PHYSICS INTERNSHIP ALIGNED WITH NIST'S ADVANCED MANUFACTURING MISSION. ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED: CONDUCT RESEARCH AND SYNTHESIZE THAT INFORMATION TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO OAM ON ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO ACCOMPLISH THE MANUFACTURING USA PROGRAM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR INCREASING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF U.S. MANUFACTURING. PROVIDE DATA THAT WILL ENABLE MORE EFFICIENT PROGRAM PLANNING. RESEARCH AND ANALYSES TO SUPPORT PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE NIST-SUPPORTED PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON ADVANCED MANUFACTURING. ASSIST WITH INFORMATION EXCHANGE WITH THE NIST LABORATORY PROGRAMS AND WITH THE LEADERSHIP OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTES ACROSS THE U.S. AND WITH OTHER FEDERAL DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES, UNIVERSITIES, STATES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, AND OTHER PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS. WORK WITH OAM AND LEADERS OF THE MANUFACTURING USA INSTITUTES TO PROVIDE DATA AND INFORMATION NEEDED TO SUPPORT NETWORK-WIDE PROGRAMS TO ADVANCE U.S. MANUFACTURING. EXPECTED OUTCOMES: THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO PROMOTE AWARENESS OF SCIENCE PROGRAMS AMONG YOUNG SCIENTISTS BY DIRECTLY ENGAGING THEM IN INTERAGENCY RESEARCH AND PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT U.S. ADVANCED MANUFACTURING ACROSS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROVIDING THE STUDENT WITH MEANINGFUL AND CHALLENGING PROJECTS. INTENDED BENEFICIARIES: SOCIETY OF PHYSICS STUDENTS, EDUCATION DIVISION OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS, AND NIST WILL ENRICH THE ORGANIZATIONS, PROGRAMS AND SCIENTIFIC ENDEAVORS WHILE BUILDING AWARENESS OF THE MANUFACTURING PROGRAMS THROUGH DIRECT ENGAGEMENT IN THE WORK THAT GOES ON IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
