About this award
The Department of Agriculture Forest Service R3-Southwestern Region awarded $750,000 to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management on August 3, 2026, under the State & Private Forestry Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program (CFDA 10.697). The award funds hazardous fuel reduction treatments on 133 acres of state and private lands adjacent to the Prescott and Coconino National Forests in Arizona, with work structured to complement fuel reduction activities on National Forest System lands and protect communities where those activities pose risk. Funding supports three subawards for on-the-ground treatment and staffing to manage sub-grant awards and monitor sub-awardee implementation. Performance period runs through June 30, 2031. The program prioritizes projects in high-priority areas identified in community wildfire protection plans or equivalent collaborative plans developed through state and National Forest coordination.
Description
The intent of arizona's non-federal lands program is to protect communities where planned hazardous fuel reduction activities on national forest system lands have the potential to place communities at risk. This is achieved by coordination and collaboration between the state and the national forests to develop projects to complement hazardous fuels reduction on forest service lands. Priority is placed on projects in high priority areas on state and/or private lands - such as those identified in community wildfire protection plans or equivalent collaborative plans. Funding will used to award three subawards, treating 133 acres adjacent to the prescott and coconino national forests. Funds will also support staffing to manage sub-grant awards and monitor project implementation by sub grantees.
