Description
- Abstract
- Industry leaders are releasing quantum computing infrastructures, such as quantum computing as a service (QCAAS), that are accessible to the general public. Quantum computing presents both new challenges for cybersecurity as well as new opportunities to improve cybersecurity enforcement. On one hand, quantum computing presents new threats to cryptographic algorithms, side channels, and quantum software security. On the other hand, quantum algorithms may enable more secure key distribution, more effective software analysis, and more accurate intrusion detection. The time has come to bring together the research community to discuss how the NSF and the broader research community should target needs for the future quantum security issues. The proposed NSF quantum computing security workshop will bring together a myriad of researchers working actively in the quantum computing and cybersecurity spaces to share their insights and help the NSF prepare research plans for this critical emerging technology. The proposed workshop will include keynotes from industrial and academic experts, presentations from leading researchers, and breakouts to discussion key questions in the future of quantum computing security research. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.- subawards are not planned for this award.
