The National Science Foundation Division of Environmental Biology awarded $523,852 to the New York Botanical Garden on January 1, 2027, to train a new generation of systematists and complete a monograph of Protium (Burseraceae), a hyperdiverse tropical tree clade under the Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074). The award funds collaborative research that combines taxonomic training with completion of a comprehensive taxonomic treatment of the genus. Performance occurs in the Bronx, New York, through December 31, 2029. No sub-awards are planned for this project. The Biological Sciences program supports basic research to advance the biological sciences and strengthen the Nation's scientific enterprise.
