The National Science Foundation Office of Integrative Activities awarded Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi $625,954 on August 1, 2026, under the Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) to acquire a state-of-the-art confocal microscope imaging system for shared-use research and education across the South Texas region. The recipient will install a Nikon AX NSPARC confocal microscope imaging system at its Corpus Christi campus to support multidisciplinary research and undergraduate and graduate training in biology, chemistry, engineering, and materials science. The instrument delivers super-resolution imaging, multichannel fluorescence detection, and environmental control for live-sample imaging, enabling 3D and 4D visualization of organisms, cells, tissues, biofilms, and engineered materials. Research applications include quantifying how environmental stressors alter bone development across generations, determining how coral and oyster calcification responds to changing seawater chemistry, and tracking nanoparticle interactions with cells and organisms for therapeutic development. The shared-use facility will serve students and researchers at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville, strengthening educational pathways from community college to graduate training and broadening participation in STEM. Dozens of graduate and undergraduate researchers will receive hands-on training in advanced imaging through coursework and direct research engagement. The project supports research in biotechnology, advanced materials, tissue engineering, and thermal management for next-generation electronics and semiconductors. Period of performance runs from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2029. Place of performance is Corpus Christi, Texas.
