About this award
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded a $9,971,458.95 Project Grant to Rampart Communications, Inc. under the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund Grant Program (CFDA 11.038). The grant will fund a three-year collaborative research effort with Virginia Tech to develop a novel 6G physical layer technology called ASPEN (Advanced Signal Processing Enhancement for Next-Generation Open Radio Units). The project aims to create reliable Open Radio Unit (O-RU) 6G solutions for mobile wireless network providers by combining Virginia Tech's interference suppression with Rampart's noise whitening, physical layer security unitary braid division multiplexing (UBDM) technology, and spectrally efficient PhyFEC coded modulation. The resulting technology is expected to establish more robust links, enhance security, improve spectral efficiency, increase network capacity, and enhance the overall performance and capabilities of 6G O-RUs.
Description
- Activities
- During the three-year period of performance, rampart and VT will research a high-fidelity 6G physical layer that combines VT's interference suppression with rampart's noise whitening and physical layer security unitary braid division multiplexing (UBDM) technology and spectrally efficient phyfec coded modulation. This integration will include research into individual algorithm improvements and optimizations as well as research required to have these components function optimally together.
- Expected outcomes
- The resulting technology, developed with funding from this grant, will establish more robust links, enhance security, provide better spectral efficiency, improve network capacity, and improve overall performance and capabilities of O-RUS.
- Intended beneficiaries
- This project seeks to develop reliable open radio unit 6G solutions for mobile wireless network providers to leverage.
- Subrecipient activities
- Virginia tech will research a high-fidelity 6G physical layer proof of concept in a developer environment that combines VT's interference suppression with rampart's noise whitening and physical layer security unitary braid division multiplexing technology and spectrally efficient phyfec coded modulation. This integration will include research into individual algorithm improvements and optimizations as well as research required to have these components function optimally together.
