The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $599,991 Project Grant under the Integrative Activities (CFDA 47.083) program to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) to develop an innovative dual signal amplification method for highly sensitive and selective DNA sensing. The 3-year project aims to integrate materials science-based amplification-by-polymerization (ABP) and optical plasmon-exciton coupling (PEC) techniques to improve signal readout and enable portable, field-friendly DNA sensors. The research goals are to strengthen signal amplification, investigate fundamental signal transduction mechanisms, and optimize the ABP-PEC platform for point-of-care DNA diagnostics. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, another minority-serving institution, and engage underrepresented students in STEM research and education.
