The Market Readiness for Local Farmers and Growers program, funded through a $733,492 Project Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service under the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program (FMLFPP), provides farmer training, financial planning tools, market access education, and food safety resources to local and regional food businesses in the Chicago metro area. Delivered through Familyfarmed, the multi-pronged program includes intensive yet accessible farmer training workshops, a two-month Farmer Training Accelerator cohort program focused on marketing/distribution, manufacturing/production, financials/funding and value-added product development, and resources translated to Spanish to expand access. The September 30, 2021 to September 29, 2024 award aims to train, develop and expand local and regional food businesses through equipping farmers and growers at different stages with relevant skills and resources.
