THIS PROJECT WILL DEVELOP AN EFFECTIVE CONTROL STRATEGY FOR A KEY CRUCIFER PEST, DIAMONDBACK MOTH (DBM), PLUTELLA XYLOSTELLA, WHICH ATTACKS VIRTUALLY ALL CRUCIFER CROPS (BROCCOLI, KALE, CABBAGE, ETC.) AND HAS DEVELOPED RESISTANCE TO VIRTUALLY EVERY PESTICIDE DEPLOYED TO CONTROL IT. WORLDWIDE, DBM HAS AN ESTIMATED IMPACT OF US$4-5 BILLION, INCLUDING DIRECT CROP DAMAGE AND COSTS OF CONTROL MEASURES. ISCA WILL DEVELOP NOVEL SEMIOCHEMICAL CONTROL TECHNIQUES FOR THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF DBM AND THUSSUPPORTCRUCIFER GROWERS.
