About this award
This $474,960 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention under the CFDA program "Girls in the Juvenile Justice System" will support a 3-year initiative by The Salvation Army to increase identification and assistance for survivors of labor trafficking, foreign nationals, rural populations, and minorities in a 10-county region of southwest Ohio. Key activities include expanding psycho-educational groups, training for foster care parents and residential youth program staff, and providing case management and peer support services to minimize poly-victimization and promote long-term recovery. The project aims to fill gaps in prevention resources for this underserved population and will measure outcomes through participant data, pre/post-tests, and stability assessments.
Description
The OVC 2023 preventing trafficking of girls program sites proposes to increase identification among underserved through expansion of psycho-educational groups and training of foster care parents and other residential youth program staff and supports. This project will serve the 10- county region of southwest ohio (hamilton, adams, brown, butler, clermont, clinton, highland, pike, scioto, warren, and montgomery). This project will specifically target increases in identification of survivors of labor trafficking, foreign nationals, rural populations, and minorities. Case management engagement to ensure long-lasting recovery and minimize poly-victimization will also be supported by this funding. Peer support through peer facilitation will also be a focus of this project. As cincinnati is not a large city and many of the areas of the project are more rural communities, prevention resources can be limited and difficult to find for survivors. This project will focus on filling those gaps. Outcomes will be measured through data collection for intakes and engagement in programming, through the results of pre 13 and post-tests for the groups, and through results on the stability assessments. The stability assessments are a tool modified from the self-sufficiency matrix and IT is expected that survivors will increase stability in safety and mental health.
