About this program
The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is soliciting applications to develop, enhance, or expand intervention programs for female juvenile delinquents under CFDA 16.830, with a deadline of October 27, 2025.
Recent awards in this program have been disbursed consistently over the past several years, with six awards made as of October 2024 and a portfolio of 60 total awards spanning since 2013. Award activity has averaged roughly six to eight grants per year in recent years, with a notable spike to 16 awards in 2023. The program has obligated $33.1 million in combined federal dollars across its lifetime, with recent individual awards ranging from roughly $560 thousand to $1 million.
The program funds direct service interventions and early intervention programs for girls at risk of or involved in the juvenile justice system. Funded activities include trauma-informed case management, gender-responsive mentoring and counseling, educational support, family engagement, gang prevention services, life skills training, and reentry support for incarcerated girls. Recent awards have addressed girls affected by sexual violence, human trafficking, gang involvement, and adverse childhood experiences. For example, the Multnomah Education Service District received $560,080 to expand its HERPATH program providing culturally responsive education advocacy and wraparound support for justice-involved girls in Oregon; Justice Innovation Inc. received $560,080 to implement Sisters Hand, a strengths-based program for girls and gender-expansive youth in Queens; and the Shelby County Board of Education received $560,081 to enhance Project STAND through mentorship, school-based interventions, and youth participatory action research.
Funding is predominantly concentrated among OJJDP itself, which accounts for 45 awards and $24 million in federal dollars obligated. The Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Victims of Crime funded 8 awards totaling $4.7 million, the broader Office of Justice Programs made 5 awards for $3.3 million, and the National Institute of Justice funded 2 awards for $992 thousand. The assistance-type mix is predominantly Project Grants (70 percent of awards), with smaller shares of Cooperative Agreements (17 percent) and Block Grants (12 percent).
