The Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded the Oneida Nation $546,354 on October 1, 2025, under the Tribal Youth Program (CFDA 16.731) to enhance and expand its Restorative Justice Project within the Oneida Nation School System.
The project strengthens a three-tier school safety strategic plan addressing prevention, early intervention, and intervention for youth exposed to violence rooted in historical trauma. The Oneida Nation will develop and implement a continuum of care framework for youth and families attending the school system, collaborating with community partners to integrate cultural practices alongside evidence-based programs. Key activities include consulting with community experts to align cultural approaches with the three-tier safety plan, creating a multidisciplinary continuum of care framework within the existing Restorative Justice Project, and establishing memoranda of agreement with community youth programs to ensure alignment with both the school safety plan and continuum of care framework. The initiative addresses chronic absenteeism, delinquency, and verbal and physical aggression by promoting healing and breaking cycles of generational trauma within the Oneida community.
Performance runs through September 30, 2030, with work performed in Howard, Wisconsin 54303. The Tribal Youth Program supports tribal efforts to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency, develop healing-to-wellness courts, and strengthen juvenile justice systems for American Indian and Alaska Native youth.
