The Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) was awarded a $899,784 Project Grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) under the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative (CFDA 16.812) to implement the Returning Citizens Advancement Program (RCAP). RCAP provides occupational training, workforce development, and other support services to justice-involved individuals, both currently and formerly incarcerated, located in Travis County, Texas and surrounding regions. The primary objectives of this 3-year program are to: 1) recruit and retain justice-involved individuals, 2) provide education and training opportunities within carceral institutions, 3) offer cohort-based workforce development programs for formerly incarcerated individuals, 4) deliver individualized case management and wraparound support services, 5) maintain connections with fair chance employers, and 6) facilitate placements in post-secondary education, industry-recognized credentials, and full-time jobs. By actively engaging 150+ participants in these activities, AAUL aims to achieve a recidivism rate of less than 20%, with 80% of participants finding employment within their field, 90% successfully obtaining a credential, and 80% graduating from an educational/training program.
