The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) awarded a $825,000 Project Grant under the Second Chance Act Reentry Initiative (CFDA 16.812) to Salt Lake County's Human Services Department to implement the Enhancing Access for Reentry Success (EARS) pilot project. EARS aims to reduce recidivism, increase positive behavior changes, and eliminate barriers to reentry for approximately 80 incarcerated adults in Salt Lake County with behavioral health disorders and housing insecurity. Key activities include: 1) case management and resource coordination during incarceration, 2) warm handoffs and system navigation support upon release, 3) at least 12 months of post-release follow-up, and 4) provision of evidence-based recovery support services such as detox, housing assistance, healthcare, employment referrals, and peer recovery support. The project period is from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2027. EARS will leverage best practices and partnerships from Salt Lake County's previous BJA-funded Jail Resource and Reentry Project to immediately launch and support the EARS pilot population.
