The Rogers County Sheriff's Office and Grand Lake Mental Health Center were awarded a $550,000 Project Grant from the Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Criminal and Juvenile Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (CFDA 16.745). The goal of this three-year award is to improve responses to individuals with mental health disorders or co-occurring substance use disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system in Rogers County, Oklahoma.
Specifically, the Sheriff's Office will train deputies in crisis intervention and screen all detainees entering the county jail for mental health and substance use issues. Those found to have needs will receive interventions like engagement with a new mental health court, treatment during incarceration, continued treatment after release, and wraparound services to support successful reentry. Grand Lake Mental Health Center will subcontract with the Sheriff's Office to provide the treatment services. It is expected that a total of 160 individuals will be served over the two implementation years through these coordinated justice and mental health programs and services.
