The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women awarded $500,000 to the City of La Crosse under the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program (CFDA 16.590) on April 1, 2026.
The award funds training for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, improvements to GPS monitoring programs for pre-sentenced offenders charged with domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking offenses, and collaboration with the La Crosse County District Attorney's Office to identify gaps in prosecution of stalking and strangulation-related crimes. The city will conduct training and education for law enforcement and prosecutors on stalking and strangulation-related offenses, purchase thermal cameras to document strangulation injuries, and provide services and resources for sexual assault victims including investigation support.
Performance occurs in La Crosse, Wisconsin through March 31, 2029. The assistance type is a Project Grant.
