About this award

The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women awarded Arapahoe County, Colorado $750,000 on May 1, 2026, under the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies and Enforcement of Protection Orders Program (CFDA 16.590), a Project Grant funding the Enhancing Investigations and Prosecution of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Initiative.

The award supports a domestic violence high-risk team coordinator and specialized prosecutor, training of law enforcement officers and prosecutors on domestic violence homicide reduction protocols, multidisciplinary case reviews, improvement of charging decisions and victim services based on risk assessment, and embedding of key data indicators into case tracking systems. These activities aim to expand the county's capacity to investigate and prosecute domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking while supporting victim safety and accountability for offenders.

Performance runs through April 30, 2029, with work performed in Littleton, Colorado.

Description

The enhancing investigations and prosecution of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking initiative (EIP) encourages law enforcement agencies and/or prosecutors offices to expand and improve their capacity to effectively investigate and/or prosecute domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, and in so doing, support victim safety and autonomy, hold offenders accountable, and promote agency trust within the surrounding community. This dual law enforcement- and prosecution-focused project will: (1) support a domestic violence high risk team (DVHRT) coordinator and specialized prosecutor; (2) train law enforcement officers and prosecutors on administration of domestic violence homicide reduction protocols; (3) conduct multidisciplinary case reviews; (4) improve charging decisions and victim services based on risk; and (5) embed key data indicators into case tracking systems.
