Description

IT is one of five grant programs funded within the sexual assault services program (sasp). Sasp was created by the violence against women and department of justice reauthorization act of 2005 (vawa 2005) and is the first federal funding stream dedicated solely to the provision of direct intervention and related assistance for victims of sexual assault. Overall, the purpose of sasp is to provide intervention, advocacy, accompaniment (e.g., accompanying victims to court, medical facilities, police departments), support services, and related assistance for adult, youth, and child victims of sexual assault, non-offending family and household members of victims, and those collaterally affected by the sexual assault. Tsasp supports projects to create, maintain, and expand sustainable sexual assault services provided by tribes, tribal organizations, and nonprofit tribal organizations within indian country and alaska native villages. Menominee indian tribe of wisconsin is federally recognized small rural tribal community located in shawano county, wisconsin, approximately 45 miles northwest of green BAY, wisconsin. The menominee crime victims program (mcvp) provides crisis response and ongoing long-term services to victims of sexual assault. With this funding, the mcvp will address the following areas of intervention and related assistance: 1)24-hour hotline services providing crisis intervention and referral; 2) accompaniment and advocacy with survivors across social systems; 3) crisis intervention, short-term individual and group support; 4) information and referral services; 5) community-based, culturally specific services and outreach tailored to the menominee community, with attention to underserved and isolated victims; and 6) the development and distribution of program outreach services.
