About this award

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon (CTGR) received a $675,000 Project Grant award from the Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women under the Tribal Sexual Assault Services Program (CFDA 16.024). This three-year grant will enable CTGR to expand existing programming for sexual assault services within its 11,500-acre reservation and surrounding tribal lands in western Oregon. Specifically, the funding will be used to: 1) increase the tribe's capacity to respond to sexual assault incidents, 2) enhance services for Native American and Alaska Native victims, and 3) provide transitional housing for victims. The grant supports CTGR's efforts to create, maintain, and expand sustainable sexual assault intervention, advocacy, accompaniment, and support services for adult, youth, and child victims within its tribal community.

Description

SASP was created by the violence against women and department of justice reauthorization act of 2005 (vawa 2005) and is the first federal funding stream dedicated solely to the provision of direct intervention and related assistance for victims of sexual assault. Overall, the purpose of SASP is to provide intervention, advocacy, accompaniment (e.g., accompanying victims to court, medical facilities, police departments), support services, and related assistance for adult, youth, and child victims of sexual assault, non-offending family and household members of victims, and those collaterally affected by the sexual assault. TSASP supports projects to create, maintain, and expand sustainable sexual assault services provided by tribes, tribal organizations, and nonprofit tribal organizations within indian country and alaska native villages. With this funding, the confederated tribes of grand ronde community of oregon (CTGR) is a federally-recognized tribe active throughout western oregon within its original 14-million-acre ancestral homelands, and today has an 11,500-acre reservation. The reservation is located in rural, southwestern yamhill county and northwestern polk county, oregon. Most of the members and families we serve reside across six main counties in oregon including yamhill, polk, marion, multnomah, washington and lincoln. Through TSASP funding, CTGR will expand existing programming in sexual assault services through: 1. Increasing the tribal capacity to respond; 2. Enhance services to AI/ANS victimized; and 3. Provide transitional housing for victims. This awardwill be a three-year project.
