This $19,889,515 Project Grant award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program (CFDA 66.616) will fund the construction of the first Resiliency Hub in Jackson, Mississippi. The Resiliency Hub will provide shelter, drinking water, electricity, and social support services to disadvantaged communities in times of system failure, while also serving as an institution for everyday community events, services, and education. Key project activities include renovating 35,000 square feet of public space, equipping an emergency wing, installing a backup generator, and providing training and services related to self-help, wellness, workforce readiness, literacy, parental care, and financial management. Additionally, the project will install solar panels, rain gardens, water wells, and electronic waste recycling infrastructure. The intended outcomes include increased building capacity for shelter, enhanced community resiliency, and expanded knowledge and skills for community members in areas such as health, wealth, and workforce development. The project aims to serve as a model for a future network of Resiliency Hubs throughout Mississippi.
