The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $2,997,248 Project Grant to the Port of Seattle under the Clean Ports Program (CFDA 66.051) established by the Inflation Reduction Act. The purpose of this award is to support the Port of Seattle in conducting emissions inventory and accounting exercises, analyzing emissions reduction strategies, engaging with port stakeholders, planning for reducing future port emissions, and conducting a workforce planning analysis. Key activities include quantifying vessel activity and maritime fuel usage, assessing zero-emission vessel and fueling technology, identifying priority sites for zero-emission infrastructure, analyzing deployment strategies and costs for zero-emission harbor vessels, and researching the impacts of vessel decarbonization. The Port will collaborate with sub-recipients such as the National Renewable Energy Lab, RMI, and American Bureau of Shipping to deliver various reports and analyses related to the project. The anticipated outcomes include a comprehensive understanding of port operations and emissions, improved readiness for zero-emission technology implementation, and increased community engagement. The project period spans January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.
