The Livingston Parish School Board was awarded a $8,390,340 Project Grant from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Program (CFDA 66.049) to replace 20 in-use, non-zero-emission Class 6 and 7 heavy-duty vehicles with new zero-emission electric buses. The grant will fund the purchase and installation of 20 DC fast charging stations at the school district's primary fleet site, as well as provide workforce development and training for up to 16 employees and community members on maintaining, charging, fueling, and operating the new electric buses. The funding aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, resulting in estimated annual emissions reductions of 290 tons of GHG and 1.434 tons of NOx. The new electric buses will transport approximately 1,400 children daily, improving health outcomes and academic performance in the Livingston Parish area.
