The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded a $43,285,439.25 Project Grant to Microelectronics Technology Inc. (MTI) under the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund Grant Program (CFDA 11.038). Through this award, MTI will develop a family of five energy-efficient, open RAN macro radios to support four global mobile network operators, including DISH Wireless. The radios will comply with upcoming 3GPP Release 19 and O-RAN Fronthaul Version 16 standards. MTI will work with its project partner, Mavenir, to integrate the radios into the DISH network and demonstrate interoperability in a multi-vendor environment. The radios will incorporate advanced features such as energy-efficient GaN devices, reduced component counts, and enhanced supply chain security measures. Upon completion of the grant period by December 31, 2026, the radios will be FCC- or nationally certified and ready for commercial deployment, including with the subrecipients Rakuten Mobile and MobiCom.
