The Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded $22,848,633 to the Superintendent of Public Instruction (Washington state's Department of Education) on July 1, 2026, under the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Program (CFDA 84.424), a formula grant.
The award funds activities to improve student academic achievement by increasing the capacity of state and local educational agencies to provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for student learning, and improve the use of technology to enhance academic achievement and digital literacy. The Superintendent of Public Instruction, located in Olympia, Washington, serves as the state educational agency pass-through recipient and must reserve at least 95 percent of the allocation for subgrants to local educational agencies and Indian tribal schools. The state may use no more than 1 percent for administrative costs and may allocate remaining funds to state-level activities including monitoring and technical assistance to LEAs. LEAs receiving allocations of $30,000 or more must conduct comprehensive needs assessments and dedicate not less than 20 percent to well-rounded educational opportunities, not less than 20 percent to activities supporting safe and healthy students, and a portion to effective technology use. LEAs receiving less than $30,000 must use funds in at least one of these three areas.
Period of performance runs from July 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
