The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a $1,491,657 Formula Grant under the Title I State Agency Program for Neglected and Delinquent Children and Youth (CFDA 84.013) to the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). This grant, effective July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, will fund educational services for neglected and delinquent youth in state-run juvenile institutions and adult correctional facilities across Maryland. The grant aims to provide educational continuity and support transition services to help these students successfully return to school or employment. Funded activities may include academic instruction, special education, career/technical training, counseling, and transition planning tailored to the unique needs of students in institutional settings. MSDE plans to sub-award portions of the grant to local educational agencies, departments of corrections, and juvenile justice services to enable direct service delivery to the target population.
