Description

Activities
The WSU extension forestry & range team will provide unbiased, research-based educational opportunities to meet landowner and manager needs. Through face-to-face and distance deliveries of classes, field days, workshops, seminars, conferences, product development, short courses, consultation S, media work, participants will improve learning and application of new ideas leading to desirable future conditions. Programs will be live and pre-recorded to suit use preference for accessing information. Physical and digital access will meet ADA accessibility standards. Deliverables and expected outcomes: WSU expects to deliver 100 activities reaching 10,000 owners and managers and positively impacting 0.5-million acres. Comprehensive achievements will 1) enhance forest and range sustainability by developing owner/manager capacity for improving health and productivity; 2) promote land resilience by preparing owner/manager capacity for responding to harmful impacts caused by wildfire, drought, wildlife damage, invasive species, diseases and insect pests, and climate stressors; and 3) diversify stewardship opportunities that lead to multiple-use benefits. We base these expectations on accomplishments documented by the past 18 years of program evaluation data. Impacts expected: 1) improved forest & rangeland health; 2) decreased wildfire risk; 3) improved habitat and biodiversity; 4) decreased insect, disease, and invasive species risk; 5) improved timber and forage productivity; 6) decreased erosion; 7) improved wood quality and products; 8) improved income opportunity; 9) improved cultural resource and special site protection; 10) improved recreation opportunities; and 11) improved water quality. Limited learning changes will be sought, and we will focus evaluation on measuring changes in knowledge, behaviors, practices, and environmental and economic conditions. We will collaborate and leverage our outreach by utilizing partnerships such as the US forest service, WA dept. NAT ural resources, WA assoc. Of conservation districts, WA farm forestry assoc., SOC. Of american foresters, assoc. Of consulting foresters, local tribes, and county partnerships. We will contribute to NGO purposes that hold common conservation goals for informing their membership and the public, such as the nature conservancy, american tree farm system, american forest foundation, rocky mountain ELK foundation, and land trusts.
Intended beneficiaries
Non-industrial private forest (NIPF) owners, rangeland owners, and land management professionals (foresters, loggers, silvicultural contractors, and tribal natural resource employees). Invited presentations for youth or service organizations are possible but not target beneficiaries.
