Description

Bridging knowledge and practice: renewable resource management for delaware landowners is a delaware state university cooperative extension initiative designed to strengthen the capacity of private landowners, small farmers, woodland owners, and natural resource managers to make informed, science-based decisions that conserve and enhance renewable resources across the state. This project aims to close the knowledge GAP between best-available resource management practices and the everyday decisions made by land stewards. Through a combination of hands-on workshops, decision-support tools, and individualized technical assistance, the program will address priority areas, including woodland management, wildlife habitat enhancement, soil and water conservation, invasive species mitigation, and climate-resilient land practices. The project will integrate emerging research from delaware's land-grant system with practical strategies that landowners can implement immediately. Measurable outcomes include increased landowner knowledge of renewable resource issues, adoption of conservation practices, strengthened cross-agency partnerships, and expanded participation in state and federal resource programs. By empowering landowners with accessible education and direct support, this initiative enhances the sustainability, productivity, and ecological resilience of delaware's working landscapes-advancing the broader mission of DSU cooperative extension to support environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.
