The Northern Marianas College (NMC) Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services (CREES) administers the Northern Mariana Islands Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (NMI EFNEP), funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (CFDA 10.514). This Formula Grant award of $102,806.00, effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2030, delivers nutrition and food resource management education services to low-income families with children in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The program provides direct nutrition education services focused on enhancing diet quality, increasing physical activity, and improving food security through better resource management.
In addition to direct education delivery, NMI EFNEP collaborates with local service providers to expand program reach to eligible low-income families and works to improve policies and environments that support healthy food choices. As a 1862 Land Grant College, NMC is strategically positioned to serve as the regional educational and research institution for the Northern Mariana Islands, leveraging its cooperative extension infrastructure to provide evidence-based nutrition programming consistent with the broader EFNEP mission to improve dietary practices and food security among limited-resource populations.
