About this award

The Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded $243,194 to Texas A&M Agrilife Research on October 1, 2025, under the Animal Health and Disease Research program (CFDA 10.207), a formula grant supporting animal health and disease research at eligible veterinary schools and state agricultural experiment stations.

The award funds research activities conducted through an internal request-for-proposal process, with researchers expected to publish results and leverage the funding to grow external sponsored research programs. Recent research supported by Animal Health and Disease funds at Texas A&M Agrilife has advanced vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance mitigation, and disease surveillance and diagnostics for livestock and companion animals. These efforts have enhanced prevention and control of infectious diseases, reduced economic losses in animal agriculture, and contributed to food safety and public health. Collaborative projects have strengthened emergency response capacity, supported integrated animal and public health initiatives, and provided training and resources for veterinarians and producers.

The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2027. Work is performed at College Station, Texas. Texas A&M Agrilife Research, the research division of the Texas A&M University System, is a state government entity and 1862 land-grant research institution serving as the recipient. The Animal Health and Disease Research program permits recipients to use funds for research expenses, publishing and dissemination of results, administrative planning and direction, and purchase of equipment and supplies necessary for conducting research.
