About this award

The Department of Housing and Urban Development Public and Indian Housing Office awarded $190,755 to the Housing Authority of the City of St. Joseph on August 3, 2026, under the Public Housing Capital Fund (CFDA 14.872) to address safety and security emergencies in public housing developments. The award provides one-time assistance for safety and security capital items that could not be absorbed within the authority's annual Capital Fund grant, with a period of performance through August 2, 2028. Performance occurs in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Public Housing Capital Fund distributes formula-based grants annually to eligible public housing agencies for capital and management activities, including modernization, development, and infrastructure improvements serving low-income residents. HUD established a limited emergency and non-presidentially declared natural disaster set-aside specifically for safety and security needs, allocating funds through lottery due to high demand; the maximum grant award under this set-aside is $250,000. The safety and security emergency must occur within the same federal fiscal year funding is requested, and PHAs may submit only one such application per fiscal year.
