About this award

This $11,444,932 Formula Grant award from the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Federal Transit Formula Grants program (CFDA 20.507) supports the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) in continuing to operate safe, dependable, and efficient public transit services. The grant funding will allow TANK to replace its existing bus rapid transit (BRT) and paratransit vehicles, as well as cover preventative maintenance activities. The new, more fuel-efficient vehicles will reduce fleet emissions and improve passenger comfort, safety, and reliability. Additionally, the grant includes a security component by equipping the new vehicles with security equipment. This funding enables TANK to maintain and modernize its transit operations, connecting communities and facilitating access to employment, healthcare, and other critical destinations in the Northern Kentucky region.

Description

Activities
Funding replacement BRT type buses and cutaway ramp paratransit vans along with preventative maintenance activities. A security aspect is included in the scope of this grant as all revenue vehicles are purchased/delivered with security equipment.
Expected outcomes
Continuation of tank operating and maintaining a modern fuel efficient safe and comfortable revenue fleet in two modes - fixed route transit (FRT) and demand route transit (DRT). These new revenue vehicles will replace existing vehicles in tanks operating fleet having exceeded their federally-defined useful life. By replacing older buses with newer and more fuel-efficient ones tank will reduce fleet emissions. Additionally new buses offer increased passenger comfort safety and security as well as less chance of a breakdown due to increased reliability. The preventative maintenance activities will allow for operation of the revenue fleet as well as safeguard the investment put towards these assets.
Intended beneficiaries
The intended beneficiaries are any residents or visitors of the general public in the northern kentucky service area using public transportation for commutes to work or other basic transportation needs.
