About this award
This $3,756,808 Formula Grant awarded by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service (CFDA 15.611 - Wildlife Restoration and Basic Hunter Education) will provide support for habitat restoration and rehabilitation planning and implementation across the state of Nevada. Over the last 30 years, the state's moderate-to-good shrub and grassland habitats have decreased by half while areas in poor condition have increased four-fold. The funding will enable the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) to assess, plan, coordinate, and implement habitat restoration and rehabilitation projects to restore healthy, functioning sagebrush ecosystems that are species-diverse and ecologically resilient. This will benefit wildlife populations and wildlife-dependent recreation across Nevada.
Description
Over the last 30 years nevada s habitats characterized as moderate-to-good shrub and grasslands have decreased by half while areas classified as being in poor condition have increased four-fold. Due to these negative landscape changes, there is a need to assess, plan, coordinate, and implement habitat restoration and rehabilitation projects designed to restore healthy, functioning sagebrush ecosystems that are species-diverse and ecologically resilient. Ndow biologists plan, consult, and implement habitat restoration and rehabilitation projects across all land ownerships throughout nevada to improve wildlife habitat values. Subsequently, wildlife populations and wildlife dependent recreation and values benefit.
