Description
This agreement provides support to the state of utah to implement its nonpoint source management program, focusing on watersheds with water quality impairments caused by polluted runoff from nonpoint sources. Nonpoint source implementation projects include a variety of structural and non-structural best management practices (BMPS), watershed planning, monitoring, technology demonstrations, and a variety of education/outreach programs. Activities:the proposed work in this agreement includes: 6 projects that will support a variety of NPS projects aimed at restoring water quality including effectiveness monitoring, targeting agriculture BMPS in priority areas, and to improving stream channels to maintain and reduce nonpoint source pollution. The farnsworth storm drain improvement project is intended to reduce E. Coli in pack creek by reducing stormwater drainage through and from the corral of a local producer. Grand county's human waste initiative goal is to reduce contaminant levels in local creeks by reducing the amount of human waste left by outdoor recreationalists and campers. The east canyon creek project will develop an EPA approved 9-element watershed plan for the upper east canyon creek watershed. The lower spanish fork stormwater lid project will improve water quality in the spanish fork river through the implementation of low impact development (lid) practices in spanish fork city to buffer stormwater runoff before IT reaches the river. The utah state university water quality's extension will conduct outreach and education to supplement watershed management and restoration efforts across utah. Lastly, the local watershed coordinators will support 6 full time staff with the utah department of agriculture and food to coordinate and implement restoration projects in priority basins across the state of utah.
