About this award

The Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Rhode Island Department of Transportation a $2.69 million Formula Grant under the Minimum Penalties for Repeat Offenders for Driving While Intoxicated program (CFDA 20.608) from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2025. The grant funds will support alcohol-impaired driving countermeasures in Rhode Island to comply with requirements of the Repeat Intoxicated Driver law. Specifically, the funding will help Rhode Island establish and enforce penalties for repeat offenders that drive while intoxicated, as required by Section 164 of Title 23 to avoid the transfer of federal funds to other states. The Rhode Island DOT will deliver the countermeasure programs and services to meet the conditions of the federal grant.
